Mercer Carpet One Floor And Home Brings Comfort To Community Members

It’s been another busy year for the team at Mercer Carpet One Floor & Home, where helping others has long been a major priority. The Westminster, MD store has yet again ensured that some of the region’s most deserving citizens will always have a soft landing.

Store spokeswoman Katlin Choate said her store has donated to several causes near and dear to her heart since early 2019. To date, Mercer Carpet One has donated flooring, as well as installation, for both a  Habitat for Humanity of Carroll County home and a customized Smart Home for a veteran recovering from life-altering injuries. They didn’t stop there, however: Choate noted that her store also donated 5 area rugs to local teachers to use in classrooms around the district. The third-generation family business is one of Maryland’s oldest flooring retailers and, having been in operation since 1959,  has developed close ties with its neighbors and surrounding communities. Choate said more exciting initiatives are in the works for 2020. Army SGT Jonathan Harmon received his customized Smart Home, a joint effort between the local Carpet One and the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, earlier this fall. The 82nd Airborne Division infantryman was wounded by an IED while patrolling in Afghanistan in 2012. Harmon lost both of his legs  and suffered a traumatic brain injury as a result, but has used his experience to  inspire others, serving as both a mentor and a volunteer. He moved into his new home on September 11, 2019.
